Nitro Circus Winter Games, Playing in the snow!
Photos & Entry By Jolene Van Vugt, AKA "Nitro Girl"
The crew headed out to Salt Lake City, Utah into the mountains to Brighton Ski Resort to take place in the Nitro Circus Winter Games. We were minus one Travis Pastrana for this shoot last minute as he got super sick and was at home getting well. So we brought in an SMX kid from Norway named Mads to take his place. We were given these brand-new winter sports devices called North Legion SMX bikes. The patented product, is a snow bike on three skis with suspension, we put them and the Norwegian to good use hucking them off just about everything.
Jim stepped it up again, just like last year's winter games and put his Pro Mountain Bike background to good use, hucking it and going big non-stop! He was the "go to guy" for sure. I showed up a day late and hopped on an SMX bike without not knowing how to ride or steer it and attempted backflipping it off the bat, they are a lot heavier than they look, it took some getting used to! Pro BMXer Tim "Fuzzy" Hall, brought his sleds and showed us a thing or two on the SMX bikes. Cowboy Kenny, Mads, Jim and I blasted the rails in the park. Godfrey was on a mission this trip and wadded him self up on just about everything he aimed for, going huge on a transfer and landing on his head! Very impressive distance and commitment. Tenacious J wowed us in T.J. style with his skiing skills. Andy Bell busted out the Ogio banners for some banner races down the hill and over the jumps, he didn't win but he did crash hard over the double. I hit a tree trying to keep up with Norway in the high speed trails and I think Fuzzy's life flashed before his eyes when he saw an SMX bike coming at him over a double with no rider!
We also headed in to the back country with over 10 sleds to take part in Godfrey's idea called the Arctic Man Race, you'll have to wait for the footage to understand more on that one, no pics as I was in the event. But I had a great outfit and a great race partner, Crum Daddy! Jim and Mads balled up and launched a huge step down on the SMX bike, we're guessing Jim went about 70 feet. Ethan got the award for ballsiest jump of the trip, hitting a massive road gap and hucking a backflip on his snowboard.
With the SMX bikes, sleds, skis, snowboards, road gaps, booters, high speed trail runs, rails, double jumps, transfers, step-ups, step-downs and Crums new sport titled "Coloradoing" which was shot on the first day and put Cam out of commission for the next 3 film days. This section is sure to be amusingly funny with just as much if not more carnage than last years winter games.
